Cacao
As the bean counters will tell you, cacao production in the Solomons has been rapidly expanding. Thanks mostly to an injection of AusAid funds, cacao plantations are popping up everywhere. A niche industry that focuses on production of nibs for export, has turned what was unproductive rural land into income generating businesses. The focus is on moving income away from logging and on to more sustainable agricultural activities.

It might be a while yet before Solli beans are as sought after as those from Venezuela… but forastero-trinitario beans have already made their way to Australia in the form of single origin chocolate.

The bean above is slightly unripe… but the white bean coating is deliciously sweet to chew on even at at this stage…
