About 20mins west of the main town, right on the road, sits Bonegi beach. A typical solli beach, with sweeping palms and rocky shores, a custom fee (of ~SBD $20) and sunken war relics, visible from the sand. This makes it more than ideal for snorkelling (except when the local croc is around). The Hirokawa and Kinugawa Japanese freighters are commonly known as Bonegi I and Bonegi II. The first wreck is 20 metres from shore and the second is visible from the beach… Bonegi I is the most dived site in the Solomon Islands. Justifiably so – it’s teaming with life, coloured coral, fish and other marine creatures.
Be sure to take an underwater camera!
